Abstract:

The signaling system as one of the main components of the railway network, has a decisive role in the capacity of the lines and the headway of the trains as two major indicators in evaluating the performance and safety of the railway networks. The dynamic safety distance in the moving block signaling system and its adjustment based on the position and speed of trains is a suitable approach to optimally use the capacity of railway network lines and reduce the headway of trains. In this article using the fuzzy Petri net, a model of block in the railway signaling system and the simultaneous dispatch of several trains in a fixed block has been presented. In fact, by using the fuzzy Petri net, a moving block structure is considered next to the existing fixed block. For this purpose, a decision is made by defining control variables and fuzzy membership functions for them and defining fuzzy rules, taking into account the safety requirements regarding the permission or lack of permission for the follower train to enter a block. The main innovation of this method is to provide the possibility of benefiting from the benefits of the moving block system without the need to change the previous system and as a result increase the reliability compared to the moving block. From the results of this method, we can mention the increase of network capacity and reduction of headway train.

Abstract:

Extracting and tracking active objects are two major issues in surveillance and monitoring applications such as nuclear reactors, mine security, and traffic controllers. In this paper, a block-based similarity algorithm is proposed in order to detect and track objects in the successive frames. We define similarity and cost functions based on the features of the blocks, leading to less computational complexity of the algorithm. Therefore, this method is suitable for real-time tracking. According to the experimental results, this method has a good performance and works well for occluded objects, cluttered environments and noisy sequences.

Abstract:

An important task in the initial design stages of rapid-transit type systems or "metros" is the allocation of signals and control points. These are placed so as to achieve a specified minimum time-separation between trains (headway), whilst minimizing the amount of signaling equipment but maintaining the highest level of safety. Conventional signaling and control systems are based on the fixed-block principle, whereby the track (or guide way) is divided into sections of predetermined length. A train is only allowed to proceed into a block when that block and usually the next one is clear of traffic. With the moving-block concept, a train can follow a preceding train at a safe braking distance behind the tail of the train. In this paper, the transient performances of the two signaling systems are compared. A multi-train simulator which was originally developed at Birmingham University (U.K.) with a fixed-block algorithm, has been adopted and modified to accommodate the moving block algorithm. Both signaling systems were applied to Singapore Mass Transit Railway (MTR) and the results were compared in terms of train movement and transient performances including headway and station delay under safety and speed restrictions. Results have shown that with a pure moving-block system a considerable improvement in transient performance can be achieved.

Abstract:

Calendar anomalies are the cyclical patterns which cannot be explained by fundamental factors in stock returns. One of the most important anomalies is the Months effect of year that their discovery is the opposite of market efficiency theory. Therefore, the purpose of this article is the examination of stock Anomalies monthly in Tehran Stock market in the period 1998-2012 through moving block bootstrap method and Percentile confidence intervals. The conclusion shows that Farvardin returns average has the positive, significant and highest return. Accordingly, the liquidity effect and Window Dressing theory could be an explanation to positive returns in the period 1998-2012.

Abstract:

For spatial data that are correlated in terms of their locations in the underlined space the moving block bootstrap method is usually used to estimate the precision measures of the estimators. But in this method, the boundary observations have less chance of presence in blocks resampling than the other observations. In this paper, an algorithm is given for separate block bootstrap to estimate the precision measures of kriging spatial predictor. Then, it is shown that the bias estimation of kriging with separate block bootstrap method is unbiased and the kriging variance estimator is consistent. Finally, in a simulation study, the efficiencies of the separate and moving block bootstrap methods are compared for measures of estimation precision.

Abstract:

Strength measurement of rock requires testing that must be carried out on test specimens with particular sizes in order to fulfill testing standards or suggested methods. Often, the coring process breaks up the weaker core pieces, and they are too small to be used in either index tests or conventional strength tests such as point load index (Is) and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS). One of the index tests to indirectly determine the rock strength is the block punch index (BPI) test, which requires flat disc specimens without special treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the BPI test for predicting the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), BTS and IS of the sandstones by empirical equations. Also, we have compared the performance of the BPI and IS for predicting the UCS and BTS. It was experimentally shown that BPI is a reliable method for predicting the UCS, BTS and Is of the sandstones under study. Moreover, the results indicate that BPI could be utilized with same importance as Is for predicting the UCS, while predicting the BTS by Is appears to be more reliable than BPI.

Abstract:

Lahiri (2003) proposed the moving block bootstrap method for spatial data, in which observations are divided into several moving blocks and resampling is done from them. Since, in this method, the presence of boundary observations in the resampling blocks have less selection chance than the other observations, therefore, the estimator of the precision measures would be biased. In this paper, revising the moving block bootstrap method, the separate block bootstrap method was presented for estimating the precision measures of the variogram parameters estimator and spatial prediction. Then its usage was illustrated in an applied example.

Purpose: Together with the increase of orthodontic treatment needs the use of functional apparatus has been increased. Furthermore, different studies has been done on skeletal and dental changes after the use of these functional appliances, but few studies discussed soft tissue changes in the field. So, this study was carried out in order to evaluate soft tissue changes following the use of Twin Block functional appliance. Methods & Materials: This study was quazi experimental done on 13 patients (7 girls and 6 boys) with 7 years and 7 months to 12 years and 6 months of age. All patients were Cl II Div.I malocclusion, Iranian, Muslim, resident of Tehran and with no previous orthodontic treatment and tooth extraction. The period of treatment with the apparatus varied between 7 to 17 months. The studied angular variables were nasolabial, nasofacial, facial convexity,H angle, mentocervical, nasomental and mentolabial. The liner variables were lower and upper lip to E line, upper and lower lip thickness, prominence and length, upper and lower face height. All variables were compared before and after the use of Twin Block and recorded in a questionnaire and were analyzed by T - test. Results: The study showed that nasolabial, nasofacial, Lower lip to E line and Upper lip length decreased slightly with the use of apparatus, while facial convexity, H angle, upper lip prominence, upper lip thickness and upper lip to E line decreased significantly. As well as, mentocervical, upper lip thickness, lower lip prominence and soft tissue lower face height increased slightly and nasomental, mentolabial, soft tissue upper face height and lower lip length increased significantly. Conclusion: Following the treatment with Twin Block, the lower face soft tissue moved anteriorly leading to decrease in profile convexity. The upper and lower face soft tissue height increases and their ratio improved. The upper and lower lip thickness reduced, but upper lip length did not change and lower lip length increased after the treatment. The space between upper and lower lip edge to E - line moved to a normal range and labiomental fold became wider.

Abstract:

Introduction: After caesarean, mothers need to take care of their babies as soon as possible, and pain relief in them leads to more comfort and faster recovery and it reduces hospitalization time and complications such as pulmonary thromboembolism as well as treatment costs. Objective: Determining the effect of TAP block by injection of Bupivacaine 0.25% after caesarean section on post operative pain.Materials and Methods: This study was performed on seventy six women that underwent elective caesarean section. Then, the women were randomly divided into two groups. Six women were excluded from the study which was a double-blind clinical trial. In the case group: 20cc of Bupivacaine 0.25% was injected between transverse abdominal muscle fascia and internal oblique muscle fascia, and in control group the same amount of normal saline was used. Pain intensity was measured by VAS score at 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48 hours after surgery. In both groups, if the patient needed pain relief, diclofenac suppository was used and its dose was recorded. Some complications such as nausea, vomiting and dizziness were recorded too, data were analyzed by SPSS (21) software, P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: VAS score at 2, 4, 6 hours after surgery in case group was significantly lower than that in the control group. (P=0.0001, P=0.0001, P=0.039), respectively. The mean number of administered diclofenac in bupivacaine group was lower than that in placebo group (P=0.0001). The mean and standard deviation of pain free period in bupivacaine group was 13.77±2.41 and in placebo group was 5.94± 1.27. Survival rate of analgesia was 14.3% in bupivacaine group and 2.9% in placebo group. This difference was statistically significant (P= 0.001).Conclusion: Transverse abdominal plane block with Bupivacaine 0.25% can reduce post caesarean pain without any side effects, such as dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and any effect on the time of ambulation. It can also reduce use of analgesics.

Abstract:

Efron's bootstrap method can only be used to estimate the precision measures of estimators when observations are independent. For spatial data that are spatially correlated, the moving block bootstrap method is usually used. But, in this method, the boundary observations have less chance of presence in blocks resampling than the other observations. In this paper, the new separate block bootstrap method is introduced and an algorithm is given for estimating the precision measures of estimators. A simulation study is carried out to compare the efficiency of the separate block bootstrap method with moving block bootstrap. It is shown that, with their method we can estimate the bias of sample mean with no error, and the estimator for variance of sample mean is consistent.
